1. GETTING ONLINE – We have identified a number of courses around Shropshire which offer a variety of subjects, from learning how to switch on a computer, operate a mouse, set up an e-mail address, surf the net, to more advanced courses using word processing, spreadsheets and design software. We will do our best to work with and encourage suppliers to offer these courses free of charge, however some are chargeable, but this is easy to see as we have divided it into two sections.
2. ADVICE – this section tells you where to go for advice and gives links to other websites informing you of NHS Dentists, hospitals, bus time tables, train timetables, out of hours Pharmacies and a whole host of other useful information.
3. SOCIAL – This is where we encourage you to actively take part. You will see a host of activities in the Shropshire area to help you get out the house, make new friends and take on a new hobby. If you know of an event locally that you think will be of interest to our website users, please get in touch and we will try and give you a listing.
4. SERVICE – We are encouraging local businesses to provide discounts for over 50′s. Whether that be a coffee shop who are offering a free cake with the coffee, a restaurant offering an early bird discount rate or a builder who is offering 10 % discount off the final quoted price. For any local business offering a genuine discount via our printable vouchers, we aim to provide free advertising for them. For all other businesses that are not in a position to offer a discount, there will still be an opportunity for them to advertise at competitive rates. So if you are a local business and would like to be listed please make contact.

A little about Silversurfersclub.org
We decided to set up Silver Surfers Club based on our own personal experiences of family and friends over the age of 50 who were struggling to find one place to get information.
We know that there are lots of different places to go and find information but it can be disconcerting, confusing and really frustrating when you are trying to find what you are looking for and you are given lots of different websites to visit to find what you need.
As a result we decided to look at what we thought would be useful for people over 50 and to try to bring everything together into one place. We also wanted to make our site friendly and easy to use as we know that just like anything else, using the internet can be a daunting prospect, until you know how. That’s why we have also included information on free courses to help over 50’s get training to get online!
Also, we wanted to find local companies who were prepared to support the over 50′s in Shropshire by offering a discount on products and services so we hope you will benefit greatly from this. Companies offering a genuine discount will qualify for free advertising so we feel it’s a great way to support local businesses and local people.
